I will be reloading using GP11and Berdans. But my problem is, I don't know how to get the new primer into the pocket. My press only handles Lg and Sm (boxer) primers. How are you Berdan users getting the primer in?Thanks,Mike

I used ancient Lee hand priming.

Re: GP11 and Berdan primers
Have I missed something here?
When I reload my Thun-manufactured 1952 Berdan-primed GP11 cases I FIRST have to use a RCBS berdan chisel tool to flick out the old berdan primer, THEN seat the new RWS primer using an even more-ancient Lee priming tool than...

Re: GP11 and Berdan primers
The RCBS universal hand primer will work well too. One thing for either is to make sure you are at the proper seating depth. I use a marker to mark the depth on the RCBS and rig a stop on the Lee. I seat mine just under flush with the base of the shell, o...

Re: GP11 and Berdan primers
The tricky thing here is that there are 2 different heights of 5,5mm~.217" Berdan primers. One is .10" high and the other (NATO) is .11" high. The later is rare and difficult to get hold of and ufortunatly the oned used in GP11 brass. To the best of my know...

Between the two(5608 and 5620)the 5608 is the better one. Some folks here need to re-read the RWS chart for the heigth difference between the 5608 and the 5620. Will

Re: GP11 and Berdan primers
HelloI think that the Berdan heights are not so important. But, as you can see here : http://theswissriflesdotcommessageboard.yuku.com/reply/28303#reply-28303 :the most important thing would be to position the priming pellet close to, but not touching, the...

Yup, I can't agree with Oldtimer's assertion that one should "Always seat the primer until it hits bottom." Way back in the dark ages when I was learning handloading, the conventional wisdom was that crushing the priming pellet wasn't a good idea and many...

Para, I have to hand it to you, you are 100% right.
For one minute I was referring to Berdan primers, then I got side-tracked, and referred to BOXER primers, which naturally do not have the impediment of the Berdan nipple protrusion.
Just blame it on ''a...

Lets just agree to disagree!
I've had multiple misfires seating the short Berdan primers flush and nill seating them to the bottom.
So i guess it is: YMMV

Re: GP11 and Berdan primers
I don't think anybody's suggesting that seating flush is normally optimum. Here's my recommendation -
"The objective is to position the priming pellet close to, but not touching, the anvil. The cup itself may be significantly shorter than the pocket depth...

Re: GP11 and Berdan primers
Those primers have been sold under various labels in the US, but currently sold under the TulAmmo label. They work well with the Swiss Berdan brass. You should have no difficulty with them.
